I had such a wonderful experience at this pottery session, which was a birthday gift from a friend—and it honestly couldn’t have been more perfect. From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and incredibly relaxing.
Scarlett, the instructor, was absolutely lovely—so patient, helpful, and encouraging throughout. She made the whole process feel approachable, even as a complete beginner, and created such a comfortable space to learn and try something new.
I left feeling proud of what I made and already wanting to come back for another session. If you’re looking for a unique experience or a thoughtful gift idea, I’d highly recommend this. Such a memorable way to spend a birthday!

What an amazing experience - we had such a fantastic time pottery throwing! It was our first time, and Scarlett made it so enjoyable. Her instructions were clear, easy to follow, and she kept us laughing throughout. The studio itself is calm, welcoming, and full of beautiful pieces created by others. We both thoroughly enjoyed our visit and can’t wait to come back and collect our creations.

Absolute hidden gem in Derby!! we went as a family of four and got to make two pots each and one big pot altogether, very good value for money. Scarlett was lovely and an incredible teacher and I would highly recommend and return!! Snacks and drinks provided, which was lovely xx
First Time Throwing a Pot on a Wheel

A warm welcome greeted me on arrival at Banks Mill. Scarlett introduced me to the other participant.
The studio was a light and airy space. Once we had donned our aprons, Scarlett demonstrated then we got stuck in to our 90 minute session.
Just the right amount of next step reminders, supportive guidance and encouragement was given to us as we worked. This allowed me to produce pots to be proud of.
The experience of getting my hands dirty whilst moulding an earthly, natural material filled me with joy. This activity was worth every penny and I have no hesitation in recommending it. I very much look forward to my return visit.

I started Flint and Gaia to bring you handmade pottery as well as pottery throwing lessons and workshops focusing on mindfulness.
I want to spread the wellness properties of clay work to everyone. Clay has played a huge part in my mental health journey over the years and I truly believe in its grounding and calming properties.
